The Smallest Things Can Make the Biggest Difference

“I desperately want to lose weight, but I don’t have two hours a day to exercise! What can I do?

Is this you?
Well, you’re not alone! Many of my clients feel the same way you do. Even hardcore fitness disciples (like I’d like to think of myself) have trouble finding the time and energy for marathon workouts. In fact, these workouts are not only unnecessary, but they can also lead to burnout and over-training injuries. The bottom line in fat loss is making sure that you burn more energy (calories) than you take in. Here are a few tips that you can incorporate into your everyday life to boost caloric expenditure.

Hoof It
Don’t waste time driving around looking for the closest parking spot. (I know it’s cold, so bundle up!). Instead, choose a more remote spot and walk to your destination. You’ll burn extra calories and perhaps protect your car from parking-lot dings! Be sure to wave to the frustrated folks circling the lot in search of a nearby spot.

Work Out At Work
Maximize those coffee breaks by taking a walk around your office building or climbing a few flights of stairs. Clear your head and boost your energy by taking a brisk walk on your lunch break. Try sitting on a stability ball instead of a typical chair. You’ll use more muscles and increase the total calories burned.

Get Into Action
Become involved in a regular group physical activity. Whether it’s tennis, softball or even dancing, a new activity can be fun and educational. To top it off, you’ll burn more calories as your body adapts to the new sport. Get a friend involved and you’ll be more likely to stick with your new activity.

Work With a Pro
Consult a personal trainer to help make the most of your time in the gym. After all, you wouldn’t try to fix your own car, would you? A personal trainer can design the most efficient program including meal plans, exercise and supplementation. This will make your exercise time more efficient.

Losing body fat can and should be an exciting and rewarding experience. The goal for fat loss is to burn more calories than you take in. By incorporating small increases in activity into your everyday life, you can increase your total caloric burn, leading to greater fat loss.

And most importantly, keep up the good work!
